Its well known kollywood flourishing  the new technology and advancements with all its projects accommodating younger minds coming in with novice thoughts and international outlook. In the mean time, decades back Tamil film industry given a labor pain by its very own child ” The Modern theaters” in 1935.

Salem well known as Steel city & Mango city was once originally an aboard  to Many of drama artists includes singers.musicians,actors,film makers.The first voice movie of Tamil “Sathi Agalya”, the first color film ” alibaba and forty thieves ” are the Master pieces of tamil industry which sparked its growth to adorable heights. Modern theaters have its won fame and pride where three chief ministers of our state Ms.Jayalalitha,M.Karunanithi and M.G.Ramachandran started their carrier which made them great artist down the lane.Also many other artists are the products of the modern theaters which is a well known fact.

The Dusk was unfortunate for modern theaters with its last film “vettri namadhae” in 1984. The whole modern theater studios,dressing rooms,parks was demolished and they constructed villas and apartments. The frontier entrance gate made in hardstone is kept as a monument witnessing its glory and gratitude.

The air of bliss is flowing across the city in the Wednesday evening (28/12/11) , in the event of  Audio release function of the movie ” Nee Enakaga mattum” in Nehru kaliarangam,Bose grounds facilitated by honorable mayor soundappan as a  chief guest and many other VIP’s in the city. They started this film two years ago in their very  own studio and company name “The New Modern film Makers” which comprises the team of ten young blood salemites with firing vision to revamp the identity of Salem in tamil movie industry.

The director of film K.B.Shakthivel appreciated and thanked all his teammates and wellwishers who helped in the tenure and made it as success also he added to provide a great support from Press and people to make the movie a grand success. Music director Jeevan mayil, assistant of music director deva  expressed his whole hearted gratitude for giving him the chance and for providing support for his work. This Audio release was something special and different from other audio releases where eminent citizens of Salem played a vital role both as a guests clubbing people from all sectors who are with common interest. As the part of this release they had a festive march from Vellakalpatti,a village near Salem for a cover of 10km. Two songs with visuals was played which impulsed a great expectation on the movie. The Audio release function was a grand success and it planted a seed of confidence that Salem will again get her jubilance again!!!..

Mukesh Mehta, a leading Hollywood distributor, says, “For moviegoers, watching a film in digital 3D is turning out to be an experience in itself. Though only seven screens in Tamil Nadu (in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai) are equipped with this technology currently, a dozen more theatres (mainly in small towns like Salem, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Tirupur and some suburbs of Chennai) will be fitted with latest 3D equipment before the end of the year.”

Heavy downpour did not dampen the sprit of Independence Day in Salem district as various institutions and fora hoisted the National tri-colour amid patriotic fervour and celebrated with cultural events on Sunday.

Since early morning Salem city and its suburbs witnessed heavy rains, which inundated the low-lying areas and threw normal life out of gear.

The preparations for the Freedom Day celebrations at many places went awry with rains lashing till 11 a.m.

The Mahatma Gandhi stadium where the Salem District administration had made elaborate arrangements for hoisting the flag turned into a sheet of knee-deep water.

However Collector J. Chandrakumar hoisted the flag and took the guard of honour offered from the gallery steps.

Salem Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh, SP Y. John Nicholson and District Revenue Officer V. Kalai Arasi and other senior officials were present. He also honoured the freedom fighters and language tyagis.

A total of 32 beneficiaries received assistance worth Rs. 2.34 lakh and 10 beneficiaries received work orders for their huts to be converted into pucca buildings under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme.

Students of various schools and colleges staged cultural programmes inside the indoor stadium.

Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. S. Palanisamy, PO DRDA, K. Varadarajan, Chief Educational Officer Raaja Raajan, Joint Director of Health Dr. Gnanasekaran, Deputy Director of Health Dr. J. Nirmalson, RDO M. G. Kulandaivelu took part.

Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini hoisted the flag on the Corporation premises in which Deputy Mayor C. Panneerselvam and councillors took part. At BSNL office, General Manager Shahjehan hoisted the flag.

Government Medical College Hospital Medical Superintendant Dr. N. Mohan and Salem Periyar University Vice-Chancellor in charge, V. Krishnakumar unfurled the tri-colour.

President, Rotary Club of Salem A. R. Baskar hoisted the flag at Rotary Hall in which Rotarians including Selvamaligai S. Manickam took part.

Congress Urban celebrated the day with its president Panneerselvam and Tamil Nadu Consumer and People’s Rights Vigilance Committee Chairman S. Selvam hoisting the flags in their offices.

Various educational institutions, government offices and private companies also celebrated Independence Day.

In Namakkal

Gaiety and fervour marked the Independence Day celebrations in Namakkal district on Sunday.

Collector U. Sagayam hoisted the National tri-colour and distributed welfare assistance to 1,219 beneficiaries at a cost of Rs. 1.62 crore.

Narikkuravas and transgenders were also given house site pattas at the function that had been organised to mark the celebrations in the district.

The Collector honoured freedom and language fighters with shawls, in appreciation of their services.

Seven farmers who showed robust produce also were given certificates of merit as tokens of appreciation for their achievement.

Government employees, including accident-free drivers, were honoured.

He also distributed working orders to the tune of Rs. 60,000 each to 10 beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme.

Doctors of private hospitals also were recognized for their good services under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme.

Senior officials including SP A. Pari, Additional SP Sureshkumar, District Revenue Officer K. Shanthi, District Forest Officer Asisvatsava, Chief Educational Officer Mallika and others took part.

A number of cultural programmes were also staged at the venue and students from various educational institutions took part in them.

Elsewhere in the district also Independence Day celebrations were held. Many educational institutions despite Sunday being holiday, celebrated the day with fervour.

The government exhibition was inaugurated at Bose Maidan here on Monday by Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam.

Minister for Information Parithi Ilamvazhuthi presided over the function in which Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini took part.

Mr. Arumugam said that every year the exhibition in Salem had drawn large crowds.

It not only benefitted the traders but also showcased the schemes of various departments. It, in fact, had been serving as a tool for the administration to make general public aware of the welfare schemes of the government, he said.

Collector J. Chandrakumar welcomed the gathering while Director (Information) K. Baskaran explained about the objective behind the exhibition. Salem Public Relations Officer Lingam and G. Manikumar, Deputy Director (Exhibition) proposed a vote of thanks.

The Minister also went around the exhibition and saw various stalls that had been put up by government departments. Twenty-three government stalls, including two from Central Government, have been erected. The rest are private stalls.

With the objective of unearthing talent, the Salem Branch of Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India organized a two-day National schools’ level competition for Plus 1 and 2 students and elocution and quiz contests for students at Bala Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School here recently.

The programme on ‘Our education system prepares us to face the real corporate world’ were presided over by its Chairman, Salem branch G. Goudhaman.

P.K. Srihari, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Salem was the chief guest at the programme in which V.S. Venkatavaradhan, former Director, Nehru Planetarium and S. Sriraaman, Past Chairman, Salem Branch acted as judges for the competition.

Selected students from seven schools took part in the competition and debated for and against the topic.

Marks

Based on the overall marks obtained by the students under the various criteria framed by the ICAI, New Delhi, the winner and runner-up were selected.

Students from Cluny Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Golden Gates Matriculation Higher Secondary School were declared winners and runners-up respectively.

Mr. Srihari in his speech said that students should take part in this type of competition leaving aside their diffident attitude.

Branch-level elocution and quiz contests for the students were also organized.

Auditors R. Suresh, S. Natarajan and V.S. Ashok Kumar acted as judges for the elocution contest and Saradha Ashok and S.P. Arunmozhi Varman were quiz masters.

The winners and runners will be sent to the Regional Level Competition to be held at Chennai during August 2010.

The best performers of the Regional Level competition will take part in the National level contests to be held in New Delhi.

V. Jayaprakash, Students Association Chairman proposed a vote of thanks.

Preliminary rounds

A release from Shriram says that the preliminary rounds will be held at Bala Bharathi MHSS, Salem, on July 25 in which contestants will be divided into 4 groups.

Finals

The finals will be held in Chennai on August 28. Last date for sending the filled in applications is July 14.

After inspecting construction work of the Super Speciality Hospital, he said that the dam could not be opened on the mandatory date of June 12 since inflow had drastically fallen. “Hence, the opening has been postponed.”

But, farmers in Delta had begun their farming activities using water from borewells. With the Chief Minister already having consultations with PWD officials, a good decision to this effect would soon be taken.

He asked the officials to expedite the hospital project. The Chief Minister is expected to declare it open on August 20, along with other projects. He would also distribute aid to the tune of Rs.250 crore to beneficiaries.

District Revenue Officer V. Kalai Arasi and other senior officials accompanied the Minister during his inspection.
