Sports Meet for village schools conducted

SAIL, Salem Steel Plant, as part of its CSR activities, to encourage and nurthure the sporting talents of peripheral school children, is conducting annual sports and games competitions each year.  The fifth such sports meet for peripheral schools was conducted at the plant’s Hill View Stadium from January 27 to 29, in which 26 government schools comprising 9 higher secondary schools, 2 high schools and 15 panchayat union middle schools from villages such as Sivadhapuram, Vedukathampatti, Naickenpatti, Murungapatti, Idanganasalai, Ilampillai, Tharamangalam, Lakshmayur, Muthunaickenpatti, T Konagapadi, Peria Karukkalvadi, Chinnapoosaliyur, MGR Nagar, MGR Colony, Kottaimedu, Peramachur, Perumampatti etc participated with around 3500 students.

At the valedictory function held on January 29, S/Shri B Vijayaraghavan, General Manager (Works), TK Mazumdar, General Manager (Personnel & Administration) and A Bandhyopadhyay, General Manager (Projects) of Salem Steel Plant gave away the trophies and prizes to successful schools and participants.  Earlier, Shri    TK Mazumdar, General Manager (Personnel & Administration) inaugurated the sports meet on January 27.

Shri M Robert Christopher, Regional Inspector of Physical Education for Salem & Namakkal districts said that Salem Steel Plant is conducting the peripheral school sports in a memorable way for the village government school boys and girls.  He added that the ground and facilities are up to the mark for conducting the meet and commented that the quality of the organisation is equal to that of the state level sports meet.
