Salem Railway Division has achieved a positive growth during this financial year as against last year, said P.N. Ram, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Railway Division.
Unfurling the National flag here on Wednesday, Mr. Ram said that the overall earnings of the Division stood at Rs. 314 crore, which was 5 per cent higher than the previous year’s performance of Rs. 301 crore. “But we have fallen short of the target of Rs. 344 crore, which worked up to 9 per cent,” he pointed out.
He said that passenger amenity works at a cost of Rs. 12 crore including Integrated UTS, electronic displays, spot your train system, coach guidance boards and improvement of circulating areas had been undertaken and additional works to the tune of Rs. 10 crore were going on. Air-conditioned waiting halls had been constructed in Coimbatore and the same was under construction in Erode.
He also pointed out that new trains had been introduced including the Duronto express train between Chennai and Coimbatore. Quarters at Salem and Erode junctions were constructed and allotted to staff members.
A new marriage hall at Podanur was commissioned.
Additional Railway Divisional Manager P. Kalimuthu and senior officials K.Kailasnath, R.Nandakumar, R.P.Nirala, V.K. Manoharan, S. Naseer Ahemed and Ms.Chandrika Jayashankar attended the function.
At the Salem Steel Plant, Pankaj Gautam, Executive Director, hoisted the tri-colour and took the salute at the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) parade.
