Salem Electoral Rolls to be released on January

The final electoral rolls for the assembly segments in Salem district will be released on January 5, 2011 and field workers are engaged in verifying the forms received for addition, deletion and corrections, if any, in the draft rolls, said Election Observer and Commissioner of Land Reforms, Tamil Nadu C. Muthukumarasamy.

He was participating in the all-party meeting on electoral rolls in which elections officials and representatives from recognized political parties from the districts of Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri attended.

Mr. Muthukumarasamy said that the works such as roll revision and preparation of final rolls and issue of photo ID cards were going on smoothly in these districts.

As per the Election Commission of India’s instruction, National Voters’ Day also would be observed.

He said that all works related to draft rolls were being taken up.

Salem district alone had received 51,114 Forms 6, 7, 8 and 8A on which field workers had been conducting enquiries.

The districts as of now had 11,29,424 men and 10,95,873 women voters along with 70 others. The total electorate was 22,25,367.

Representatives from various political parties including DMK, AIADMK, CPI (M), BJP, Congress and PMK took part.

Collector J. Chandrakumar, Salem Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. S. Palanisamy and District Revenue Officer V. Kalai Arasi and other election officers took part.
