The prison administration in Tamil Nadu has banned plastic bags on the premises of all its prisons including the nine Central Prisons in the State from Monday. As per a recent order, the Salem Central Prison had also banned plastic bags. Prison Superintendent Pazhani inaugurated the anti-plastic campaign asking the family members of prison inmates to bring eatables in paper and cloth bags. The plastic bags after use would choke the prison drainage, Mr. Pazhani said. The authorities had also distributed cloth bags to the visitors at the Salem Central Prison.
