Rare breeds of dogs were exhibited at the Combined Championship Dog Show organised jointly by the Salem Acme Kennel Club and The Madras Canine Club which concluded here on Sunday.

More than 50 breeds of dogs numbering around 400 took part from all over the country and from abroad.

The dogs underwent a thorough scrutiny before the start of the show by an expert team of veterinarians.

Only pedigree dogs registered with the Kennel Club of India were permitted to take part in the championship.

Various prizes for the different breeds under various categories were distributed.

It was the first time the Salem dog show attracted rare breeds such as the English Pointer, Saluki, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Jack Russell Terrier.

The others breeds that won the awards included the Great Dane, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Labrador Retriever, Dalmatian, Mastiff, Siberian Husky, Doberman Pinscher, Pomeranian, Pug, Miniature Pinscher, Dachshund and Boxer.

Indian breeds such as the Rajapalayam, Combie, Chippiparai, Caravan, Hound, Mudhol Hound, Himalayam Moutain and Rampur Hound also participated.

President of the Salem Acme Kennel Club Vishu Kaliappa, Secretary K. Subramanian, Treasurer M. Srinivasan and Joint secretary C. Subramaniam and other members organised the two-day event. MLA A. Raja inaugurated the championship and Salem District Panchayat Vice Chairman K. Sureshkumar distributed prizes.

  1. I want to bye a jermanshepard or dobberman dog and i have already brought up two dogs and they died one to another after 8 years of our family so pls tell me where i can get a good healthy dog in salem city….
