Another good news for Salemites on Salem Airport:
Soon Salem AP will be added in Air India’s network, as confirmed by Air India’s Southern Region Director Mr. Sunil Kissan. The company is showing interest to start its service from Salem.
Once Air India procure small aircraft’s, the company will consider Salem Airport & Tuticorin Airport from Tamilnadu on its expansion plan for mid range services with in India.
Currently the Salem AP runway length is small, and it can be used only by small range aircraft’s such as ATR, Airbus 319 and Boeing 737-3,4,5 series.
If civil aviation ministry come forward and expand Salem AP for operating bigger jets then, Salem will became one of the successful airport in western part of Tamilnadu.
Recently a flying club based from Chennai had put their hangers in Salem AP for its training purpose for students. Another club from Bangalore is soon going to open flight training institute here, is to be noted.
