The approach road to Karuppur, a major suburban locality, is in bad shape.
The road branching off from the National Highways today is full of slush and mud, forcing the people to undergo untold miseries.
Before the expansion of the National Highways into a four-lane stretch, it was in good condition.
When the widening works and construction of a rail over bridge were undertaken, the approach road was neglected.
“Despite our repeated requests, neither the National Highways Authority of India, which widened the Highways nor the State, which is maintaining the Karuppur Road, have taken any steps to re-lay the approach road,” says a college student who commutes daily.
Nearly 5,000 people commute to and from Karuppur and Salem, all using the slushy and pot-holed stretch.
During rainy season it becomes a stretch of slush and mud.
The people have urged the administration to immediately lay the road and save them from any more suffering.
Many accidents have taken place in the recent past, they point out.
