Childline Center Opened in Salem Junction

Childline facility was opened at Salem Railway Junction on Thursday for the benefit of children who had run away from their homes or who had been deserted by their parents.

Salem Railway Divisional Manager P. N. Ram inaugurated the centre.

He asked the travelling public to make use of this service-oriented facility for the welfare of society.

He insisted that children should not be allowed to be abused by vandals and anti-socials.

He expressed his happiness that Railways could play its role of social responsibility in this regard.

Childline was started in Salem city in 2002 in which YWCA and Don Bosco Anbu Illam are collaborative organisations.

Till today they had received a total of 2.72 lakh calls. To check the trafficking in children, a new centre was opened at Salem Railway Junction.

Railway officials and police had ensured all support to the Childline staff in their endeavour.

YWCA President Suriya Benjamin welcomed the gathering.

Rev. Xavier, Director, Don Bosco Anbu Illam, presented a report.

Divisional Personal Officer Chandrika Jeyasankar presided while YWCA Secretary Ruby Thiagarajan proposed a vote of thanks.

A large number of Railway employees also took part in the function. The toll-free phone line is 1098.
