Two died in accident near Salem City

Two women were killed and five others were injured when a private bus from Bangalore hit a lorry parked on the National Highway near Salem on Sunday night.

The bus was proceeding to Kottayam. While nearing the Arabic College on the Salem Corporation border around 11.50 pm, the driver rammed the bus against a stationary lorry on the highway.

The front portion of the bus was mangled and the left side of the chassis ripped off up to three seats from the front.

The police recovered the bodies of two women, who died on the spot and sent them for postmortem to the Salem Government Hospital.

The deceased were later identified as Dr Mercy Mathew (46), a native of Kavarikal in Kottayam district practicing in a private hospital in Bangalore and Sherlyn (22) an employee with the City Union Bank in Coimbatore. She was married just 15 days ago.

Among the injured, Saralamani (53) and Domnique are critical and have been admitted to a private hospital here.Other injured include Krishnamoorthy (48) and Appachan (53) of Koothattukulam and Francis (53) of Kakanadu.
