Handloom exhibition begins

The 15-day special exhibition-cum-sale of handloom products – began at C. Vijayaraghvachariyar Memorial Hall here from Tuesday. The exhibition will be on till June 29. Inaugurated by Veerapandi MLA A. Raja, the exhibition will showcase the best in handloom.
Stalls
Nearly 50 co-operative handloom societies and others from many districts including Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Kancheevaram, Vellore, Coimbatore, Paramakudi, Cuddalore, Virudhunagar, Karur and Madurai have established their stalls in the exhibition. Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini presided over the function.
Registered
Mr. Raja in his address said that 43,100 handloom weavers were registered in Salem district, in which 65 societies of the total 70 were functioning on profits.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had provided free power of 100 units per month for handloom and 500 units for power looms.
These products included silk dhotis, angavasthrams, silk sarees, shirts, cotton sarees, dhotis, towels, lungis, bed sheets, carpets and mosquito nets.
