Modern Sanitary Complex Opened

Steps will be initiated to construct additional buildings for the Corporation Government High School in Azhagapuram Puthur, State Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said. He was speaking at a function after inaugurating a modern sanitary complex constructed at a cost of Rs.17.60 lakh at Jallikadu here on Saturday. The minister pointed out that many people in Azhagapuram puthur demanded the construction of additional buildings for the school.

He appealed to the authorities concerned to keep the school premises neat and tidy. All the school buildings should be whitewashed at least once in a year.The minister also assured that adequate basic amenities including roads and drinking water supply provisions would be created in Jallikadu shortly.

The Corporation had handed over the maintenance of the sanitary complex to a self-help group, he added. Salem Corporation Commissioner M. Jayaraman presided. Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini, Deputy Mayor C. Panneerselvam and senior officials were present.

Later the minister inspected the development works and handed over a sum of Rs. 2.16 lakh as assistance under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme to 36 pregnant women in Saminathapuram.

Free stoves and liquefied petroleum gas connections were distributed to beneficiaries in Jallikadu. He also distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 19.30 lakh to 402 beneficiaries at various places. On Friday, the minister declared open a library building constructed under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam in Marulaiyamapalayam village. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the State government had initiated to steps to get 400 MW of power from other States to tackle the power shortage. Stating that the shortage was due to increased demand, he claimed that a few people were trying to politicise the issue. Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy, District Rural Development Agency Project Officer D. Jagannathan and senior officials were present.
